The 2009 Ford F-150 opened the 2008 North American International Auto Show. The vision for Ford’s truck team was clear: Redesign America’s favorite truck, giving buyers unrivaled capability, unprecedented choice and a host of smart, game-changing features. You can choose from various F-150 models: the no-fuss XL workhorse, the sporty STX, off-road capable FX4, mid-range XLT, high-end Lariat, King Ranch, and the new Platinum series.

Improvements to the F-150 start with the fully boxed frame constructed with hydroformed and high-strength steel side rails. The lightweight frame delivers 10% more torsional rigidity, which delivers increased durability and safety. The new F-150 offers segment-first standard AdvanceTrac with RSC (Roll Stability Control) and Trailer Sway Control, plus available Rearview Camera Assist as well as Integrated Trailer Brake Controller, a segment first on light-duty pickups.

While you will have to wait on diesel for the 2010 models, the Ford F-150 comes with three V8 engine options, mated to either a 4-speed or a new fuel-efficient 6-speed automatic transmission. The 5.4L 3-valve Triton V8 has been optimized for better performance with improved horsepower and torque, and is capable of running on E85, regular unleaded, or a blend of both. The second engine option, the 4.6L 3-valve V8 utilizes the same open valve injection of the 5.4L engine for an increase in horsepower during towing and a reduction of emissions. The third engine option is the 4.6L 2-valve V8 that delivers more horsepower with the same fuel economy performance as the outgoing truck’s V6. The all-new V8 engine lineup delivers a fleet-average 1 mpg improvement in fuel economy versus the outgoing F-150.

The interior was also upgraded, offering more usable space for passengers and gear, thanks to a 6-inch stretch that improves rear legroom and cargo capacity. The flow-through console has been lengthened by almost 2-inches and is large enough to stow two or more laptops. More than 30 storage areas have also been built into the interior, ranging from a bin on the top of the instrument panel to a number of small spaces designed to accommodate tools like cell phones and MP3 players. Of course, the 2009 F-150 will have the industry-exclusive Ford Sync system in addition to Sirius Travel Link, voice-activated navigation, and a Sony audio system.
