Chrysler will have a trio of eco-friendly debuts: The Jeep Renegade which is a small two-seater that runs on electricity stored in a lithium-ion battery that is supplemented by a small diesel engine, the Dodge ZEO which is a two-plus-two wagon that runs solely on electricity from a lithium-ion battery, and the Chrysler ecoVoyager people mover that runs on electricity from batteries supplemented by a fuel cell.
Ford is set to unveil its next-generation F-150 pickup truck and the small crossover Verve concept.
Nissan will be introducing its Forum concept which is a next-generation family mover. Some of the innovations featured in the concept include trackless sliding doors and no pillars between the front and second row seats.

The unnamed concept is built on an aluminum space frame structure and will be powered by a turbo-diesel engine.
Both Toyota and Kia plan to unveil all-new production models. While Toyota has stayed mum on their premiere, Kia has confirmed that theirs will be a new seven-passenger SUV called the Borrego.
BMW will be introducing several vehicles, including new diesel-powered models while Mercedes-Benz will be premiering a small luxury SUV concept.

2008 Jeep Liberty Shows At NYIAS

In its first redesign since its introduction, the all-new 2008 Jeep Liberty embraces its roots by taking on a more rugged, classic Jeep design that is guaranteed to strengthen its draw to current owners and broaden its appeal to a new audience.
The 2008 Jeep Liberty gains two inches in length and a half-inch in width. On the inside consumers will find its cargo capacity has increased and passengers in the second row will gain an additional 1.5 inches of leg room. The industry-exclusive Sky Slider™ full-open canvas roof rounds out the vehicle’s list of attributes.
“The all-new 2008 Jeep Liberty remains true to its heritage by using classic Jeep styling cues such as the clamshell hood and seven-slot grille; on the inside, cargo and utility have been increased to meet the lifestyle of today’s active consumer,” said Ralph Gilles, Vice President – Jeep®/Truck and Color and Trim Studios, and Specialty Vehicles, Chrysler Group Design.
There are two models: Jeep Liberty Sport and Jeep Liberty Limited. Standard on both is the signature seven-slot grille. A front-end module that spans across the vehicle houses the grille and headlamp system in a single unit, similar to Jeep Commander. The structure is designed to meet pedestrian impact and other crash standards for both domestic and international markets. Front lamp modules contain the halogen headlamps and optional fog lamps. The front fascia is bodycolor on all vehicles.
Roof rack side rails are available on Sport models and standard on Limited models. The side rails are black on Sport and chrome on Limited.
New to the rear of the vehicle is a liftgate with a flipper glass window. The flipper glass is self-opening, permitting interior access without having to open the rear liftgate. The flipper glass can be opened by a release button on the light bar or key fob. The spare tire is now placed underneath the vehicle, allowing for increased interior space.
The all-new 2008 Jeep Liberty brings the “Only in a Jeep” open-air experience with the industry-exclusive Sky Slider full-length open canvas roof. The Sky Slider roof can be moved to several positions, including full forward, full rear or partially open to any position in-between with a convenient express one-touch switch.
The Sky Slider roof is made of a reinforced acrylic cloth, similar to a convertible top, which is weather-resistant and leak-proof. The top panel nests into a weather strip seal to help minimize wind noise. The roof utilizes anti-pinch software that will prevent the roof from moving should it detect an object in its path. The Sky Slider roof is an optional feature on both the Jeep Liberty Sport and the Jeep Liberty Limited.
Available fold-flat front passenger and 60/40 fold-flat rear seats are perfect for loading, hauling and tailgating. The front and rear seats – monotone on Liberty Sport and two-tone on Liberty Limited – feature wide inserts and heavy bolstering designed to cradle occupants for a secure feeling. The seats have tall, square shoulders and the bottom cushion has been lengthened for better thigh support. The Jeep Liberty Sport model comes standard with cloth seats. Leather, heated seats for the front occupants are optional on the Limited model.
Jeep Liberty Limited also features YES Essentials® cloth seats as standard. This advanced fabric repels stains, controls odors and reduces static electricity. The new fabric can withstand endless cleanings (even in the same area) and will not rub off or change the texture or comfort of the seats or surfaces during ownership of the vehicle.
A four-spoke steering wheel provides the all-new 2008 Jeep Liberty with a generous tactile heft and feel. Standard on Limited models is a leather-wrapped steering wheel with wheel-mounted electronic vehicle information center (EVIC) and audio controls. A tilt steering column is standard on all models.

Jeep Trailhawk Concept Debuts at NAIAS
Filed under: 4x4s/Off-roaders, Concept Cars, Detroit Auto Show, Jeep
The Jeep Trailhawk concept merges the spectrum of the Jeep brand by combining the core features of the Jeep Wrangler with the sophistication of the Jeep Grand Cherokee. Derived from the all-new Jeep Wrangler architecture, the Jeep Trailhawk concept taps into “Jeep Rugged” attributes to provide classic proportions, unsurpassed off-road capability and a new approach to open-air freedom. The headlamps, cropped and peering out from beneath a diagonal brow, produce the countenance of a bird of prey, and the inspiration for the “Trailhawk” name.
The stance is broad, and the wheels, pushed to the corners of the vehicle, are enclosed in robust flares dramatically offset from the body. Partly trapezoidal in shape, yet not asymmetrical, these angular, crisply-contoured wheel flares reinterpret one of Jeep’s fundamental design cues.
The Trailhawk’s long hood is fronted by a signature seven-slot Jeep grille angled rearward to match the lean-back surface of the forward flares, with the slots filled with a mesh texture. Bracketed between the grille and the flares, the chamfered headlamps mimic the lean-back stance. Beneath their clear flush lenses, HID projector beam quad lamps nestled into twin “telescopic” polished aluminum barrels light the way forward while LEDs, configured in parallel stripes provide park and turn signals.
The four-passenger interior is dominated by two major design elements —the cross-car instrument panel (I/P) form and a full-length central spine which forms the floor console. The AC outlets, center stack compass/inclinometer, and the dimensional, double-deck “biplane” gauges are housed in circular casings having the appearance of machined aluminum, with detailing matching headlamp surrounds. The two-tone leather-wrapped aluminum steering wheel features vertical individual switches for lights and speed control.
The driver and three passengers can relax in individual premium leather seating in Bark Black and Firewood Orange. The vehicle’s floor is a durable spray-finish with integrated non-slip heel pads, practical for all-weather use.
In the cargo area, each quarter panel houses a removable, portable “audio pod” sound system. Handsome in their rectangular dark gray cases accented with silver circular speaker bezels, each “pod” is fitted with a dock for an MP3 player. For carrying of first aid or road hazard gear, jerry-can style boxes in easy-to-find Firewood Orange are mounted forward of the speaker “pods.”
The utility of the cargo area is enhanced by a drop-down tailgate featuring integral concealed storage, four cup holders, and a sliding Load ‘N Go cargo tray with movable partitions that roll rearward for easy retrieval of stored items.

* Patriot introduces rugged, classic Jeep styling at an affordable, entry-level price
* Jeep Patriot’s interior features utility, flexibility and many cool innovations
* Value abounds with excellent fuel economy and a long list of standard safety features
The Jeep® brand continues its expansion into untraveled territory with 2007 Jeep Patriot. This all-new compact sport-utility vehicle (SUV) delivers fun, freedom, utility and best-in-class Jeep 4×4 capability, as well as a new entry-level price point for the Jeep brand.
Based on the concept version of Jeep Patriot introduced at the 2005 International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt, 2007 Jeep Patriot is a modern interpretation of traditional Jeep styling. Jeep Patriot combines the packaging and interior flexibility of an SUV with the performance, handling, fuel economy, and price of a compact car or small pickup. Safety features, such as standard side-curtain air bags and standard Electronic Stability Program (ESP), add to Jeep Patriot’s tremendous value.
All-new Jeep technology gives Patriot more capability than any other vehicle in its class. Jeep Patriot will be available in the United States and Canada in three drive configurations: front-wheel drive, Freedom Drive I™ (a full-time, active four-wheel-drive system with Lock mode) and Freedom Drive II™ Off-Road Package (a full-time, active four-wheel-drive system with low range that provides true Jeep 4×4 Trail Rated capability).
“The Trail Rated Jeep® Patriot will be the most capable 4×4 in the compact SUV segment,” said George Murphy, Senior Vice President - Global Marketing, Chrysler Group. “Jeep Patriot’s capability, combined with its classic Jeep design, interior flexibility and terrific fuel efficiency, will attract new buyers to the Jeep brand.”
The 2007 Jeep Patriot and Jeep Patriot Limited models will be available in U.S. dealerships in early 2007 and in global volume markets in both left- and right-hand drive starting in the first half of 2007.
In addition to interior spaciousness and flexibility, Jeep Patriot has many clever and unique available interior features that add functionality not typically found in a compact SUV, including:
* Standard side-curtain air bags
* Available nine-speaker Boston Acoustics Premium Sound Group that includes two articulating speakers packaged in the liftgate; when the liftgate is open, the speakers swing down to face rearward for tailgating and other activities
* Auxiliary audio input jack for MP3 connectivity on standard radio
* Available dual purpose, self-recharging removable cargo lamp, which is mounted in the headliner above the cargo area and can snap out of the bezel to serve as a flashlight
* A sliding center armrest that moves forward 3 inches to accommodate shorter drivers. The armrest lid includes a unique flip pocket for storing a cell phone or an MP3 player
* Available 115-volt outlet in the center console that powers small electronics
* Available fold-flat front passenger seat that creates a table-like surface for versatility
* Available fold-flat front passenger seat that creates a table-like surface for versatility
* Ultra Floor™ - a washable and removable vinyl load floor in the rear cargo area with a 250-lb. load capacity
* YES Essentials™ Fabric - an easy-care, soil-repellant and anti-microbial textile that protects seats from stains, odors and discoloration
* Available Navigation System
Patriot features a standard 2.4-liter World Engine that produces 172-horsepower and 165 lb.-ft. of torque. This 2.4-liter World Engine has dual Variable Valve Timing (VVT) on both intake and exhaust camshafts, which helps optimize the torque curve at all speeds and produces more power, better fuel economy and smoother, quieter operation than engines without dual VVT. Dual VVT is a technology typically not available on vehicles sold in the United States in the Jeep Patriot’s price class.
Jeep Patriot also features a standard five-speed manual transaxle and an available CVT. Patriot’s CVT2 is a second-generation CVT that Chrysler Group engineers calibrated for pleasing engine response and precise ratio control. CVT2 contributes to a fuel economy improvement of 6–8 percent compared with a traditional four-speed automatic. Patriot’s CVT2 also improves vehicle performance compared with a traditional automatic transaxle because of optimized gear ratios, especially in the 30–60 mph range during passing maneuvers.
A 2.0-liter turbo diesel engine, paired with a six-speed manual transaxle, will be available for Jeep Patriot in key diesel markets outside North America.
